Isolationism May be Gaining Ground (Keeping the World Company)
See an Article by Christopher McCallion. The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tim Apicella. The guest is Jean Rosenfeld.
Our panel will discuss a chilling article in The Guardian by Christopher McCallion. He’s with a new Libertarian/Ron & Randy Paul initiative, Defense Priorities Foundation, funded by the Kochs, that is stunningly islationist. This article could be a harbinger of a run up to a WWIII that eerily parallels the 1930s isolationist phenomenon. McCallion takes on the Pax Americana argument that undergirds our foreign policy, NATO, alliances, and support for Ukraine and Israel. It rebuts the Russia-China axis and its narrative of ‘multipolarity,’ Eurasianism, and the negative hegemony of the United States. McCallion is a young academic who has been an adjunct lecturer in history at Hunter College, but he been tapped for Defense Priorities to broadcast an alternative geopolitical world view. This new narrative may fit all to well with the younger MAGA intellectuals and the extreme progressive views of withdrawal from alliances, wars abroad, countering Russia’s aggressive stance vis-a-vis the West. This reversal of our foreign policy would seem to be compatible with Putin’s objectives and the autocratic views that Trump has expressed.
