Two preceding ‘human[e] architecture’ shows by DeSoto Brown have shared the history of the town of Lahaina, which has been destroyed by the fire of August 2023. This Show continues the last one, taking a chance on brainstorming potential propositions for shelters of both temporary and permanent types for the survivors who have lost their houses due to the wildfire. Increasingly many lose their sheltering due to predatory capitalism’s gentrification on all our islands of Hawai’i.
Aware of the prevailing hesitation for proposals because of grief and other reasons, this panel takes a chance to provide hope by suggesting other than the to-be-expected well-meant generic disaster relief structures of however hermetic invasive neomissionary nature.
