Open and Close

Authorized staff will appear and open the studio 30 minutes before the first show of the day, as indicated on the calendar. Upon entry, turn the alarm off, put the lights on, open the combination locks to the control room and the studio, turn on all the cameras and studio lights.

At the end of the day, authorized staff will insure that all the lights and sound are off, the inside doors are closed, the combination locks are locked and that alarm is set before leaving.

Equipment Eccentricities

If Livemode on the Tricaster freezes, try to do control-alt-delete to get to an earlier Tricaster memo to recover without having to delete the machine.

If you have to restart Tricaster, you will need to repair or reinstall EUJControl from the Control Panel to get the Avid Driver and Mixer to work, and to avoid continuing error codes from them.

If the sound out of the Sound Mixer is bad, check to see the table mics are on (middle bar position on their black boxes under the table) and that phantom power is set to off on the Sound Mixer. Make sure the levels for all the mics are the same. If the sound is still bad, reboot the Sound Mixer.

Decorum/Orderliness

Visitors, including Hosts and Guests, should not be permitted in the Control Room. All staff should monitor the Reception Area and tell the people there to keep their voices down.

Visitors and downline Guests may sit in the Gallery in the Studio Area, but should be warned to keep completely quiet while they are there.

Everyone should be asked to turn off their cellphones while they are in the Studio Area.

Children may wait in the Reception Area or the Gallery in the Studio Area but should be attended and told to remain quiet.

Visitors may not use the computer in the Reception Area unless authorized to do so. If permission is given, all programs running on those computer should first be terminated.

Dealing with Hosts/Guests
Hosts of a completed show should be ushered out of the Studio Area as soon as the show is over. Hosts and Guests of the next show should be rotated into the Studio Area and miked at the table as the previous Hosts and Guests leave.

Hosts and Guests should be asked to approach and leave the table from the right side of the Studio Area. They should not be permitted to walk in the wired area between the tables and the cameras.

When the Hosts and Guests are seated for a show, the swivel stools should be adjusted to make them roughly the same sitting heights behind the table.

Before every show, each Host and Guest should be asked to do a sound check and verify that the lower third titles with his or her name and affiliation, and the name of the show, are correct.

Before the show, the Floor Manager should offer water to each host and not allow any Host or Guest to bring any beverage which is not in a capped bottle into the Studio Area.

Before the show, the Floor Manager should point out the tally lights on the cameras and the Twitter feed monitor and familiar the Hosts and Guests with this equipment.

If a Tweet relating to the show comes in during the show, the Floor Manager should point that out to the Host.

After the show, the Floor Manager should tidy up the Studio Area before the next Guests come in, and should wipe down the Host and Guests headsets with alcohol before offering them for use by the Hosts and Guests in the next show.

Control Room Engineer

The Control Room Engineer interfaces with the hosts, guests and Floor Manager and produces the shows, using the Tricaster and the Skype computer and sound mixers in the Control Room.  The Engineer also enters the show data on our Broadcast Spreadsheet and uploads the Talk Show movies to youTube and sets up the over night playlists at the end of each broadcast day.  The Engineer also fulfills requests for DVD copies of shows pursuant to our DVD fulfillment system.

Floor Managers

The Floor Managers handle studio operations for the Talk Shows, including the lights an lighting, the microphones and headsets, the monitors and video digital recorder and all other equipment and supplies in and required in the studio.  They are responsible for the condition of the studio and to keep it neat, clean and orderly at all times.  They welcome and seat the guests, they clean and hook up the microphones and headsets for the guests and provide water for them.  They promptly rotate the guests out of the studio at the end of each show.

Systems Manager

The Systems Manager maintains and develops organizational systems for the operation of the studio, including the Broadcast Listing calendar, the daily Global and its related content and mailing list, the ThinkTechHawaii.com website, as well as certain inventory and bookkeeping functions.

Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager sends and monitors social media messaging with a view to increase and improve ThinkTech viewership, followership and Twitter Q&A on a continuing basis. The Social Media Manager reports to ThinkTech on progress in that regard on a weekly basis.

Videographer

The ThinkTech Videographer prepares the studio and records the OC16 and Speakers Corner shoots on Saturday, as well as any studio maintenance and on-location shoots that may be necessary.
