The discussion was: It well may take a day or two until America knows who will become the 47th president. With all eyes on the electoral vote count of Pennsylvania, it may be one of the last states to tabulate their vote count. By law, PA can only begin to open mail-in ballots at 7 AM on election day. Opening envelopes, flattening paper ballots, stacking them by hand takes time; perhaps a minute or more per ballot. Now take millions of ballots multiply them by one minute. Will election results be ready by the end of the night? Vote tabulations were not available in 2020. Only days after election day did we know Joe Biden won PA and the election. Sprinkle in Trump’s early announcements that the PA election is already filled with fraudulent ballots and tampering, one may well understand why election night may not give Americans relief from a stressful election season. In fact, the conflict over election results may dominate the news cycle for multiple days. The panel will examine how a protracted Election Day will impact an already divided America.
The takeaway was: The more time it takes to tabulate election results, the better the chance Trump could cast doubt on the election process in select swing states. It is anticipated that Trump will claim victory early in the night which will only seed opportunity to create chaos should final vote counts remain delayed.
