Who Are the Weapons Suppliers of today’s troubled World (Global Connections)
Who Are the Weapons Suppliers of today’s troubled World; What Are the Implications of Their Transactions (Global Connections). The host for this show was Jay Fidell. The guest was Roopmati Khandekar.
The discussion was: Roopmati Khandekar, geopolitical analyst, helps us understand what countries and suppliers are supplying weapons to whom, for what reasons, and at what price and discounts and on what terms. How do the brokers and supply chains work. Who is designing and manufacturing these weapons. What weapons and weapon technology, including especially AI and autonomous weapons, are most popular and in demand. To what extent is the US involved in the sale of weapons, such as Trump’s sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE a few weeks ago. To what extent is China, Iran, Russia and North Korea involved in the sale of weapons. What are the margins and profits on the sale of weapons. Does this include nuclear weapons, parts and supplies. Is anyone giving weapons away, and why. What effect do these weapons have on existing or potential conflicts. To what extent to they get into the hands of terrorists. To what extent does the media cover these sales, and to what extent do the power players and competitors know who else is selling what to whom.
The takeaway was: The weapons trade is always below the surface, but we need to learn what we can if we are to understand the nations, players and conflicts that may benefit by the sale of these weapons. The more weapons are in circulation, the more likely we will have wars. Given the power and lethality of modern weapons, these sales will have increasing geopolitical effect.
