Unvaccinated, Pay 50% for Hospital Bills? (What Now America)
Health Ins. Premiums Soar? Who Pays? The host for this episode is Tim Apicella. The guests for this episode are Jay Fidell and Cynthia Sinclair.
The cost of hospitalization is high, especially if it’s for days, weeks, or months. Now that the Delta variant is infecting far more Americans than the original Alpha COVID19, and the illness has a much greater impact, what do we say to those who choose to refuse vaccination? Who pays for the thousands of dollars of medical care required for those who could have prevented hospitalization by simply getting the shots? If it’s not state or the federal government tax dollars paying for it, then you can feel confident it’s going to be those who have insurance and will see their monthly medical insurance premiums climb? Is it unreasonable to expect the unvaccinated to cost share for their decisions? Smokers pay a higher insurance premium (most states can charge 50% higher) for a patient to exercise their “freedom and rights”. Is it time to require big co-pays for those who insist on their freedoms and choose to avoid the shots?
