Trump Needs Economics 101 (View from the North)
Trump Needs Economics 101; Why Trump’s Tariff Program will Make the USA Worse off (View from the North). The host for this show was Jay Fidell. The guest was Ken Rogers.
The discussion was: Retired Canadian Businessman Ken Rogers helps us understand Trump’s needs for a course in basic economics to show him that his tariff program will make the USA worse off, and why and how a 10% baseline tariff for the USA (versus every country with reciprocal tariffs) will be an economic disaster for the US. Ken will also help us understand how a new NAFTA would work for the US and Canada. The implications of King Charles’ visit to Canada, the status of the Trump’s tariff and trade war with Canada, the status of the Canadian economy, Canada’s countermeasures and trade with other countries, the wildfires burning in Western Canada, the resulting evacuation of tens of thousands and Canada’s exposure to climate change, Mark Carney’s efforts to make Canada an energy superpower, the trade deals between Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the bee incident in Vancouver, and he celebration of Canadian Armed Forces Day on June 1st.
The takeaway was: It’s clear that Trump doesn’t understand either economics or global trade, and we need to explain it not only to him but to his cabinet, which also doesn’t seem to understand these things.
