The discussion was: Roopmati Khandekar, geopolitical analyst, helps us understand the role of Putin in the Right wing drift in elections results in Europe: Italy, France,Poland and a number of other countries. Europe’s economy is failing because of failing exports to China and the cost of energy it has to continue to buy from Russia. Governments are changing like dominos, and the influence of right wing ideology and political parties is being accepted and has become a game changer in coalition politics. To what extent is this the result of a hybrid invasion by Putin. The Ukraine war may soon be over, but we also need to focus on his non-kinetic moves all over Europe. It is not clear that Trump will be able to deal with Putin or the economic and political problems in Europe.
The takeaway was: Putin is involved in a multi-pronged political attack against various countries in Europe. One reason is to discourage them from supporting Ukraine, but there is actually much more at stake than that. We discuss how he is doing this, and the success and repercussions of his efforts.
