Dennis Suyeoka’s Coffeeline on University Avenue across the School of Architecture has been an internationally peer reviewed hidden gem secret for 27 years. The University of Hawaii plans to redevelop the area ewa of University Avenue mauka of the intersection of Metcalf Street. While the 1932 pink Atherton House is supposed to be cavity carved postmodernly leaving the facades with new infill the adjacent 1959 Atherton YMCA building is planned to be bulldozed and with that its tenant “Coffeline” which is famously known all over the world through its inclusion in the “Phaidon Wallpaper Honolulu City Guide”. The hosts for this episode are Martin Despang and DeSoto Brown. The guest for this episode is Dennis Suyeoka.
