Honestly, Hasn’t Ukraine Already Lost the War; It’s Lost 25% of its Territory, and Resupply from the West Isn’t Easily Forthcoming (Keeping the World Company). The hosts for this show were Benjamin Davis and Tim Apicella. The guest was Jean Rosenfeld.
The discussion was: Trump keeps on hitting on Zelensky and Ukraine and the US is no longer providing money or weapons. Trump is also back to blaming Ukraine for invading itself. Europe would like to help, but it is not clear that they actually can or will provide money or weapons in time. In the meantime, Putin continues his hybrid war against Ukraine, and has now brought in Chinese troops to help him. Trump is busy deporting students in the US and is not pursuing any meaningful peace negotiations. This must all be very demoralizing for Zelensky and Ukraine. Can anything be done to save the day, or are we in the process of just writing off Ukraine. If Putin is able to take over the country, what is likely to happen to the rest of Eastern Europe.
The takeaway was: Ukraine has to be one of the great post-war tragedies in Europe, and represents the very real and intentional possibility of the end of Pax Americana and the end of NATO and the Liberal World Order. At this point, we should be following the events in Ukraine very carefully, since the result will will have a profound and long lasting affect on American global interests, whether the Trump administration recognizes that or not.
