The discussion was: Our esteemed guests Jean Rosenfeld and Manfred Henningsen help us understand the changes that are going on and in fact accelerating in the world; invasions, wars, public opinion that increasingly supports conservative ideologies, isolationism, opportunism and nationalism; the emergence of dictatorships in lieu of democracies; the decline of civil society, the rule of law and civil and human rights, sovereignty and the liberal world order; increases in propaganda and foreign manipulation, terror proxies, more dangerous weapons, and the rise and fall of regimes; the development of adversarial blocs of countries; the exacerbation of economic rivalries, challenges and threats of nuclear war; the terrifying increase in climate change with storms, floods and droughts affecting agriculture and supply chains and leading to hunger, disease, forced migration, violence and war. Are we on the verge of a Third World War. Are we already engaged in an hybrid form of that war. How were these destructive changes manifested in 2024. What can we expect in 2025. How should we feel and deal with these things. What if anything can be done to slow down the destructive forces and factors that are revealing themselves.
The takeaway was: Here at the end of 2024 and the beginning of a new year, it’s time to examine the global changes and trends that will help us understand where we are and where we will be going in the next year.
