Designing Innovative Organizations (The Creative Life)
The Art of ‘Ambidextrous Innovation’. The hosts for this show are Phyllis Blees and Darlene Boyd. The guest is Neal Gutterson.
Organizations that can both keep up with and stay ahead of marketplace demands must cultivate systems designed for both incremental and transformational innovation.
Guest Neal Gutterson described a way for organizations to meet both challenges while
keeping a healthy tension between types of innovation to assure short-term and long-term success. That way is to create “ambidextrous organizations.”
Neal explained how he brought the disruptive technology of ambidextrous innovation systems to business and world of farming at Corteva Agriscience. We learned how Corteva and other companies can take this technology to scale. They start with the intentional design of two systems of innovation and innovators. They build two different governance systems which leaders “ambidextrously” shift between. And they develop a collaboration mindset to work with external entrepreneurs.
