China Briefing with Dr. Lawrence Foster and Brenda Lei Foster
From September 2005 to July 2013, Ms. Foster was President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai), which is the largest and fastest growing American Chamber in the Asia Pacific region and one of the largest AmChams outside the United States. As President, she was responsible for overseeing all of the Chamber’s initiatives, as well as representing the Chamber and American business interests in China, the U.S., and the Asia Pacific region. Since August 2013 she has served as an Executive-in-Residence at the University of Hawaii, Shilder College of Business where she advises and assists the College in its international programs, especially those related to China. Ms. Foster established Foster & Associates LLC in August 2014 as an international consulting firm to assist companies with market entry strategies with countries in the Asia Pacific region, and with China specifically, as well as to assist foreign companies with foreign direct investment into the United States.
Dr. Lawrence C. Foster is the former Dean and Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law where he teaches Securities Regulation, Introduction to U.S. Law, Property Law, the language of Chinese law, International Business Lawyering in Asia, and legal writing. He has traveled extensively and lived in Asia since the late-1960s. In addition to his law degree, he has a PhD in Chinese language and literature from the University of Washington. From 2005 to 2013, Dr. Foster taught at the University of Hawaii law school in the fall and then lived from January to August in Shanghai, China. In Shanghai, he was a Senior Consultant at a major international Chinese law firm in Shanghai. Since 2011, Dr. Foster has been an Affiliate Professor of Law at Beijing University’s School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen, China where he has taught U.S. securities law and property law. His recent book, China Law Reader, was hailed as a one of a kind resource for anyone interested in learning the grammar and vocabulary of Chinese law.
