Are we Paying Enough Attention to Latin America (Global Connections)
Are we Paying Enough Attention to Latin America; So Many Latin American Countries Are on the Fringe (Global Connections). The host for this show was Jay Fidell. The guest was Roopmati Khandekar.
The discussion was: Roopmati Khandekar, geopolitical analyst, helps us understand the factors that keep the majority of countries and thus the entirety of Latin America functioning on the fringe economically, politically and geopolitically. The political and economic challenges require keen attention in Latin America and in countries that are concerned about it. Nations like Brazil, which is part of the BRICS bloc, stand out in the international community compared to nations less prominent, like Paraguay, Peru, Chile and various others. Latin America is the only continent with no nuclear weapons, and no representation in the UN security council. And, of course, it is rife with social, economic and security issues that force people to leave their homes and try to migrate north. The discussion highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the countries of Latin America to develop effective frameworks to satisfy the needs of their people and become more productive in the global economy.
The takeaway was: In spite of these various challenges, Latin America still holds great promise. If the international community pays more attention and increases the inclusiveness for these Latin nations everyone involved will benefit.
