Abducted Activists: China, Civil Rights and Legal Representation with Dr. Teng Biao
Dr. Teng Biao appears on Mark Shklov’s Law Across the Sea. Dr. Lawrence Foster, law professor and former Dean of the University of Hawaii Law School, joins Mark to interview Dr. Teng.
Dr. Teng is from the PRC where he was an outspoken academic and civil rights activist. He was formerly a Lecturer with the China University of Political Science and Law, and also provided legal representation in numerous death penalty and civil rights cases. He had to leave China as a result of the recent persecution of civil rights lawyers in China. Dr. Teng has been a visiting Fellow at Harvard Law School and at Yale Law School. He is currently a visiting scholar at New York University and the Institute for Advanced Study. He is in Hawaii as the inaugural participant in the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Scholars at Risk program. During his week-long stay in Hawaii, he plans to speak on campus and in the community about protecting civil rights in China, democratizing China, and academic freedom in China.
