Lucien Pugliaresi will highlight new research just published David Victor of UC San Diego and Brookings Institution that is getting considerable and widespread mainstream attention because it refutes assessments now in place by the IPCC, NOAA, and NREL, and IEA that a diverse portfolio of clean energy technologies makes a transition to a low carbon emission energy system both feasible and less costly than other pathways.
This research has just been published by the National Academy of Sciences so it is not something from the climate deniers.. The authors point out that most of the previous work relied upon invalid modeling tools, contained modeling errors, and made implausible and inadequately supported assumptions.
The authors conclude that policy makers should treat with caution any visions of a rapid, reliable, and low-cost transition to entire energy systems that relies almost exclusively on wind, solar, and hydroelectric power. The relevance to the ongoing full renewable program for the State of Hawaii is of course obvious.
